The adhesion molecule intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) is known to play a crucial role in lung inflammation such as endotoxin-induced injury. Although ICAM-1 has been characterized on endothelial cells, limited information is available regarding its expression in the epithelial compartment.
